MASNA's
purpose is to:

  • Educate our members with quarterly newsletters, the MACNA conference, and other sanctioned events
  • Assist in forming and promoting the growth of clubs within the hobby and the education of their members while ensuring a sustainable future for the marine environment
  • Encourage the ethical growth of the marine aquarium hobby and support captive breeding/propagation
  • Support efforts to eliminate abuses in collecting and transporting marine organisms

President’s Report: Nancy Swart

Thanked everyone for their support. Spent until August dealing with MACNA XIII. Stated that we are solvent. MACNA contract has been revised – much more basic for the host club.

Upcoming events are the USCRTF annual meeting, raffle campaigns, online raffles.

Stated that MASNA is attempting to pool resources with FAAS, as well as with the Brooklyn MAS.

Vice President’s Report: Tom Walsh

Fundraiser on the Internet – failed

Secretary: ABSENT

Treasurer: ABSENT

Financial report passed out.

MAC/USCRTF: John Brandt

A current board member of MAC & attends USCRTF meetings when possible.

MAC- Public knowledge of mortality rate (requires less than 1%). There are a few certified stores. Fish inspected at all locations is a future goal.

USCRTF- maintain CRTF communication. Legislation written (sitting on capital hill). Main focus is: pollution, ship groundings, marine debris, surface temp. of oceans, food fishing (use of dynamite & cyanide). John to provide the summary of entire USCRTF report (not just aquarium related issues).

Addition of Chuck as Internet Promotions

Ongoing Projects include: FAMA advertising, new member welcome package,

Store window decals, ongoing internet campaign.

Future of MASNA will greatly involve use of the Internet. He requested more involvement from everyone.

Travis Nelson posed many questions to MASNA BOD dealing with club membership voting vs. individual membership voting, current treasury status, and questions about who John Brandt is.

DFWMAS – Anthony Patrick stated that this year will be a success financially and encouraged other clubs to host future MACNA events.

There will be a MACNA XV, hosted by LMAS.
