OLD TANK SYNDROME

Condition in which organic acids, excess nitrates, and other products accumulate in the aquarium, causing gradual decline in pH or a sudden pH crash. Thought to be caused by lack of proper maintenance of the aquarium including regular partial water changes.

OMNIVORE

One that eats meaty foods and vegetable foods.

ONLINE FISH STORE (OFS)

OODINIUM

Known as velvet disease, similar to ich but more deadly.

OOLITIC

Sugar fine sand

OSMOSIS

OVERFLOW

OVIPOSITOR

The reproductive organ through which a female fish deposits her eggs. .

OUTSIDE DIAMETER (O.D.)

Used when measuring tubing dimensions.

OXIDATION REDUCTION POTENTIAL (ORP)

OXYGEN (O2)

OZONE

A gas used in aquarium systems to break down organic waste, raising redox levels.
