Madurai, India: A marine research project to monitor/prevent ‘marine litter' in the Gulf of Mannar has been taken up with the support of Ministry of Earth Sciences.

As part of this initiative, researchers of Department of Marine and Coastal Studies of Madurai Kamaraj University are currently engaged in two specific tasks: to develop marine water quality criteria and conduct a survey of coral reef health status along the coastline.
