Hi,  MASNA! I am curious if a MACNA has ever been hosted by more than one club? I live in a western state with 3 marine aquarium clubs in the capitol city, and our state is between 2 other states with active clubs.

I have never been able to attend a MACNA, because I cannot bring myself to ask my family to spend our yearly vacation time on my passion. MACNA has been held on the other side of the continent so many times! I keep hoping it will move west one day.

The club I am involved with is very small, and the club that is larger is owned by a person who told me it is too much work to host MACNA. But, if the 3 clubs in this area combined their efforts, maybe I could talk him into it. These 3 clubs in our city are all MASNA members. Has MACNA ever been hosted by more than one club?

    Suzy,

I do not believe that it has ever been done. It can say it has been suggested and was part of a bid package. There are some concerns as to the split of any proceeds and work effort. But I am not sure that it is something that can not be done as long as all the clubs are willing participants and can work together well.

As to the east coast vs. west cost issue. Yes we are aware that the event has been held primarily on the east coast. Not something that I am thrilled about as well. However since we use a bid process, this is the case. It has been over ten years since a club from the west coast bid on doing a MACNA. And while we have reached out to to the west for more participation, it simply does not happen. I think you will find that things will be changing as we continue to reevaluate the current process.

Thank you so much! I am really gong to do some research, contact the other two clubs and see what I can find out. Should I contact you here with any questions they may have? The forum won't let me send PMs.

I think it's a great idea to have MASNA move west once in a while. Where do we find out about the bidding process?

    Hi Sam

You can go into the club resources & then go into MASNA Documents will tell you some.

Contact Steve Pro, there is a document about planning & bidding on a MACNA he can send you that has quite a bit of information on it.
