Looking for some suggestions on ways to find regionally interested parties besides a) getting your local fish store involved and b) using Reef Central.  I've already hit up the websites of some other clubs in the same state (nothing closer than a 3 hours drive each way) but limited response.  Really, really don't want to have to ask to be "unbanned" from RC so I can drum up interest for a club..that's "caving" to the "monopoly" in my eyes (and I wear my "moved on" flag as a badge of honor!)

    Ideas?

Best thing I've seen for people is to create an email list. Even if you only have 5 people on it. Send out an email "Getting Minnesota hobbyists together, if you are interested send an email to Matt" and see how far the email travels.
    Next idea..... facebook.

Lanie...how did you effectively leverage Craigslist (i.e. what category(ies) did you post in, and what did you post)?

If I remember the history correctly DFWMAS was started with a simple add in the local classifieds. Today not sure that would be such a big deal. Today I would look more to the internet.

If you are starting a new club go ahead and form it. Then create a fan page on Facebook and start talking about it there. Maybe even use their ad service. Create a Tweeter account as well. Also talk with some of the larger blogging site and forums like ReefTools, Reef2Reef or maybe even Jake at Reebuilders. If nothing else this will get some exposure and get the info into search engines.
