At the fish store a bit ago my wife fell in love with the saddlebacks. I have been searching for breeding information on these clowns. I can not find much of anything. Do you know of a resource for this information? These clowns are very pretty but not much of a return investment wise. I cant imagine no one of trying to breed these guys. Any information is greatly appreciated!

By saddlebacks are you referring to Amphiprion polymnus? There's at least two distinct forms available, a brown and a black (the black often being sold really mislabled as a "Black Percula"). They're not as easy to raise as some other clowns. They get larger than many clowns, and can have huge clutches (i.e. potentially multiple thousands). ORA produces the brown form and they not that hard to find. I honestly don't know of anyone producing the Black form but I'm sure there are people out there who've spawned it.. You might also like the related Amphiprion sebae (the TRUE Sebae, not the Clarkii types that get sold as Sebae). They're much rarer, not much more expensive, and are pretty much black, yellow and white. There is also a cross of A. polymnus X A. sebae which is called a "White Tipped" Clownfish...not that I suggest making this cross (I'm staunchly anti-hybrid).

What else do you want to know?

Good information thank you. More so looking for the brown saddlebacks(Amphiprion polymnus). Once I think things through, I will most likly add a pair of these to my broodstock. Just kind of weary as I dont see any active breeding threads anywhere for these guys. I know the return isnt that good as the LFS's sell these for $10 per....
